Honea Path, SC| On Tuesday afternoon, The Honea Path Police Department stopped Rancy Richardson on his bicycle. After further questioning and investigation, Rancy was found to have large quantities of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine. Rancy led the police on a short police chase. The Police had to deploy a taser to ultimately take down Rancy.
On Thursday, The Honea Path Police Department released a statement:
On December 10, 2024, at approximately 2:41 PM, officers with the Honea Path Police Department observed an attempted narcotics transaction at the Electric City Transit (ECT) bus stop, located at 34 N Main Street, Honea Path, SC.
The suspect, identified as Rancy L. Richardson of Honea Path was approached by officers. Mr. Richardson became verbally argumentative, using profane language in the presence of other passengers. He refused to comply with officers, resisted arrest, and attempted to flee the scene, dropping money and bags suspected to be connected to the drug transaction.
During the brief foot pursuit, Mr. Richardson was detained during a scuffle that ensued Mr. Richardson grabbed an officer and attempted to reach for a firearm he dropped nearby. To prevent potential harm, an officer deployed a taser, but Mr. Richardson continued to resist until additional officers arrived.
Following his apprehension, Mr. Richardson was evaluated by Medshore EMS and transported to the Anderson County Detention Center by Honea Path Police. A search of Mr. Richardson and his possessions yielded the following: 83.76 grams of Methamphetamine, 14.34 grams of Fentanyl, a loaded firearm and Drug paraphernalia.
Honea Path Police Chief Miller praised the officers’ actions, stating, “This was great work by our officers. This incident underscores the importance of continuing our efforts to eliminate drugs from our community. We must send a clear message to drug dealers that their activities are not welcome in Honea Path. The citizens of this town are tired of their antics, and their time here is over.”
Mr. Richardson is currently awaiting an additional bond hearing at the Anderson County Detention Center. Mr. Richardson is currently charged with the following:
Trafficking in Methamphetamine, 28 grams or more (1st offense)
Trafficking in Fentanyl, 14 grams or more
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Resisting Arrest/Assault, Beat, or Wound a Police Officer
Littering (not more than 15 lbs)
Public Disorderly Conduct
Possession of a Weapon by a Violent Felon
Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime
Failure to Accompany a Law Enforcement Officer
Distribution of Narcotics Near a School or Church
